The residents of Mutiara Perdana at Bandar Sunway have come to us seeking help for their new apartments. They have received the Certificate of Fitness for Occupation BUT to their horror, there's no water and electricity connection! Some other parts of these apartments are in bad condition - cracks, uneven flooring, damaged toilet bowls and etc.
They have approached the developer-Westcourt Corporation Sdn Bhd, MPSJ and even Kementerian Perumahan Dan Kerajaan Tempatan but to date, the residents are still in a fix. Residents had to pay out of their own pockets for water and electricity connection and when they tried to claim this amount from the developer (5% stakeholder sum), they were told to queue as creditors as the developer is now wound up. Some residents have no money to fix the water and electricity connection and they are not able to move in.
The Joint Management Body is now in a difficult state as they have insufficient occupants to contribute to the services and management fund. We called for a press conference to highlight this situation.
I will be seeking for an explanation from MPSJ and also the architects as to how this could have happened. The Ministry of Housing and Local Government must take stern action against irresponsible developers and ensure that purchasers are truly protected by the law.
