Spot checks at USJ 2

I did my monthly spot check on public places in my constituency - this time at the parks at USJ 2. There is room for improvement for these parks. Parks are generally of great concern to the people of Subang Jaya. I have received numerous complaints on parks alone. I am concerned about the overgrown and fenced up area at the top of the hill at the park at USJ 2/2L. Snakes may be living there. The grass there are as tall as me! I will ensure MPSJ does something to clear this place. Below are some photos of the parks.

Many people have enquired about the powers of the local council to clear and cleanse private lands. Most of the time the owners of these abandoned lands do not respond to the notices sent out by the local council. Below are the provisions from the Local Government Act 1976 concerning this which may be of interest to you:

Filthy house, etc.
74. Any owner, occupier or tenant of any house, building or land, whether tenantable or otherwise, who suffers the same or any part thereof to be in a filthy and unwholesome state or overgrown with rank or noisome vegetation, shall be guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be liable to a fine not exceeding one thousand ringgit or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding six months or to both such fine and imprisonment and to a further fine not exceeding one hundred ringgit for each day during which the offence is continued after convictions.

Power to enter and cleanse houses or buildings
75. (1) The Health Officer, or any officer authorized by the local authority in that behalf in writing, may at any time enter and inspect all houses and buildings and by an order in writing direct the occupier to cause within a time to be specified in such order all or any part thereof to be internally and externally colourwashed or distempered or otherwise cleansed for sanitary reasons and if necessary disinfected and all dirt or rubbish to be removed or collected.

(2) If such order is not complied with within the time specified, the occupier shall be guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be liable to a fine not exceeding one thousand ringgit or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding six months or to both such fine and imprisonment and to a further fine not exceeding one hundred ringgit for each day after conviction until the order is complied with.

(3) No entry shall be made into any dwelling-house in actual occupation, not being a common lodging-house, without six hours’ previous notice to the occupier unless with his consent.

Checking the park at USJ 2/4

Rubbish found outside of the bin. This is something that the residents also must work on and not just the contractors!

Campaign materials of Barisan Nasional can still be found at the park in USJ 2/4 in November 2008, more than 7 months after the GE 2008

Same as above

BN's campaign materials are everywhere in the country even after 8 months.

In PJ Utara & PJ Selatan, it is still seen on lamp posts and even some bus stops.

In Teluk Intan, there are even some small billboards still around last month, one in front of Convent secondary school and another at the municipal field.

Please upgrade all our parks especially the Subang Lake park. The whole place is so run down. Please have more facilities like cycling/roller blading track, playground and working exercise equipment. A good example is the Taman Jaya park in PJ.
