There is ability in disability

Together with the leaders of Beautiful Gate Foundation and Shuang Fu Disabled Independent Living Association

"There is ability in disability" - these are the words penned by my political secretary Edward Ling. I find truth in that statement. Sometimes when we are weak, that's when we are strong. I was invited to be the Guest of Honour to the OKU Talent Performance at The Summit USJ last week. Each disabled participant displayed his/her talent via their specially choreographed performance. I have great admiration for people who will rise up above their limitations, people who will weather all odds and people who will focus on what they have been given, not what they have not.

Discrimination must be put to an end. We in Subang Jaya must be sensitive to the needs of the disabled in our neighbourhood. We must start somewhere. My office will be organising a dialogue session with Orang Kurang Upaya (OKU) in my constituency.

Date: Saturday, 29 November 2008
Time: 11am
Venue: Dewan Kenanga, MPSJ
Entrance fee: Free of charge (but registration online via www.dapsj.com is compulsory or contact my assistant Cherrinee at 012-2913358).

The objective of the dialogue session is to provide an avenue for OKU or carers of OKU living in Subang Jaya to voice the concerns/challenges faced by them. Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat and MPSJ councillors are expected to be present at the dialogue session.

There will be a creche whereby we will have activities organised for children whilst parents of OKU participate in the dialogue session.
