Regional Research Centre in Selangor

FEBRUARY 18, 2010

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim today witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Selangor Islamic University College (KUIS) and Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) to build a regional research centre in the state.

The signing ceremony which had taken place at ISESCO headquarters in Rabat, Morocco, is part of a five-day working visit to Morocco which began Tuesday. Also participating in the working visit are KUIS’ board member Dato’ Setia Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa, rector and CEO Datuk Mohd Adanan Ismak, and research and development faculty dean, Ahmad Ismail.

The working visit also entails courtesy call to the Housing Minister of Morocco, Malaysian Ambasador to Rabat , special gathering with Selangor students in Morocco and visiting several mosques in Casablanca. The Menteri Besar and his delegation are expected to return on Saturday.

The research centre which will be set up in KUIS - which is fully owned by the Selangor Government – is aimed to develop effective methods in teaching and learning Arabic not only for Malaysia but also for the Asian region.

The State Government believes that the research centre will be a boon for KUIS which aspires to becoming a full-fledged university in the near future. ISESCO had indeed made the right decision in selecting Selangor being the most developed state and blessed with its multi-racial, multi-cultural and multi- religious population.

Education is among Selangor’s focus as the state aims to be the catalyst to the country’s academic excellence. The existence of four public universities (IPTA), five private universities (IPTS), seven university colleges and 98 private colleges proves that Selangor can be recognized education hub in its own right.

Balik Kampung Rumah Selamat

For those who will be away from home this Chinese New Year, please ensure you drop by the nearest police station to sign up for this program.

This is taken from SJ Alert's website :

Very simply, it's making a request to the Polis to send their men to patrol your house and the surrounding vicinity throughout the duration you are away from home. Specifically for those who are planning to go away during the coming
Chinese New Year Holidays. Just register your absence with the Balai Polis at Bandar Sunway, Putra Heights, Taipan, Subang Jaya SS17 and USJ. Once notified, the Police will arrange for their mobile patrols to "visit" your home until you return.

The recent launch was attended by CPO Selangor Dato' Khalid Abu Bakar, OCPD ACP Zainal Rashid Abu Bakar, Member of Parliament YB Loh Gwo Burne, MPSJ councillors and resident groups.

Mr Robert Chan representing SJ Alert

MPSJ councillor Ken Chia represented me at the event (I have been on medical leave after a surgery and will be back to work next week). I have been informed that due to financial constraints, the police has discontinued the police beats placed in crime hot spots.

Issue of security should be a priority of the Home Ministry. As a State Assemblyman/ADUN, I do not have authority over how police resources are being allocated but I do want to help in whatever way I can. At the event, I pledged RM5,000 from my state allocation to the police force for a police beat to be built at a location in Subang Jaya. I believe more police presence on the streets can definitely deter crime.

Persiaran Tujuan

Last year after pushing MPSJ to do a traffic study on Persiaran Tujuan and after the implementation of IKRAM's professional suggestions, traffic on Persiaran Tujuan improved in the morning.

However, ever since school started in January 2010, many residents have complained about the heavy traffic along Persiaran Tujuan again. MPSJ councillor Rajiv Rishyakaran is currently monitoring the situation together with MPSJ Engineering. IKRAM has again gone on site together with councillor Rajiv and MPSJ Engineering and this time, the team noted an increase in vehicles and change in traffic pattern. This is possible when you have new batch of students in every school in town and increase in households in nearby townships.

Please read Rajiv's posting on his blog entitled Traffic on Tujuan for Morning Rush Hour for more details.

MPSJ councillors together with SJ Alert have also gone on a site tour with the traffic policemen from IPD Subang Jaya to examine all the junctions and places which are in need of assistance from the traffic police.

As for Persiaran Kewajipan, MPSJ councillors have also met with JKR and MP for Kelana Jaya Loh Gwo Burne to discuss on all the outstanding issues relating to Subang Kelana Link.

I have also spoken to Nik Nazmi, the State Assemblyman for Seri Setia about the congestion at the Motorola interchange. This congestion has also caused a backlog all along NPE, Persiaran Tujuan and all the way into USJ.

I will continue to coordinate with all parties involved to see how we can improve the situation this year.
