Press Statement on my nomination as Speaker of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly

I am deeply humbled by the announcement regarding my nomination as Speaker of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly.

Pakatan Rakyat has once again created history by nominating the very first woman Speaker for a legislature in Malaysia. I will officially be elected as Speaker when the State Legislative Assembly convenes.

While I am not sure I am deserving of such an honour, I am fiercely proud to be part of a coalition that has proven time and again its firm commitment to gender equality and promoting women to leading positions in public service. This is further validated by the appointment of 4 women EXCOs into the state government’s new line-up, a composition which we have retained since 2008.

I would also like to congratulate the new Deputy Speaker, YB Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad on his nomination. By nominating us who are both under the age of 35 to these two positions, Pakatan Rakyat demonstrates its confidence and faith in young leaders as well as in their ability to play key roles in continuously developing a healthy democracy in Malaysia. We pledge to hold steadfast to the idealism and dynamism of youth, while ever building upon the wisdom of the more experienced among us.

In particular, I would like to state my appreciation to YB Dato’ Teng Chang Khim, who has set a sterling example for a Speaker and has raised the standard significantly over his tenure in the last 5 years. The reforms initiated by him have gone a long way in nurturing a more genuine democracy and l look forward to continuing them. Our quest is to continuously strengthen the legislative assembly for it to be as effective as it can be in fulfilling its functions of providing oversight, representation and lawmaking.

Lastly, I would like to sincerely thank both DAP and Pakatan Rakyat for entrusting me with such important work and reaffirm my commitment to serving the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, the people of Subang Jaya and all citizens of Selangor.

ADUN Subang Jaya

YB Hannah, Heartiest Congrats on yr appointment as first woman speaker in Malaysian legislature.

It is not because you are a woman but your integrity, sense of fair play and a good head on your shoulders that earn your stripes.

I wish you all the best and hope you will not be subjected to sexist slurs during the siting from the opposition bench.

Hannah,
I am sorry that my message would be extremely different from the rest. While I am happy of your appointment as speaker, I am some what extremely disaapointed you as a speaker. Not as if you are not up to the job. To be frank, it doesn't impress me in having just another speaker, so happens that it's a female & non muslim. Unless you have become acting MB, whenever Khalid step out of selangor. I am very sure that's not the case because if it were, HRH would have accepted the previous arrangement. Which is 5 malay excos + 1 malay MB against 5 non malay excos.
My point is that your talent & service rendered to selangor would be put into better use if you helm an exco post. I will be delighted if Khalid were to relinquish the finance & budget chairman to you. AND KEEP THE SPEAKER POST
By the way, the exco composition has defied simple mathematic convention

PKR which has 14 aduns, get 3 Excos & a menteri besar while DAP which has 15 aduns only get a pathetic 3.

Furthermore, teng Chang Khim were to be given a junior post.....Jagaing only local government. Gana jaging estate workers......I expect DAP can handle heavier portfolio.....Including Public amenities & infrastructure, finance......

BOTTOMLINE IS RAKYAT IS DISAPPOINTED. RAKYAT HAS REJECTED AZIZAN'S GOVT. IT CAN ALSO DECIMATE DAP. They did in 1995 in penang

This is a very interesting commentary by one quite blogger

Isn't Ketuanan PKR that ensure PKR became so damn dominant. Has PKR become the new UMNO? I am afraid it's a yes

I offer my condolences Hannah Yeoh. They have certainly silence you and your success as an Exco through the most devious means possible: promoting you to the neutral post of a Speaker.

I'm sorry PKR has once again swindled DAP and Pakatan Rakyat as a whole. Shameful.

Congratulation & hope that u can carry out your duty without fear or favour.
Hope that Subang Jaya will be a much better place for the next 5 years.
Key areas such as infrastructures upgrading and tidiness of the municipality should be look into seriously.
It will be meaningless if the state coffers improved but the ground situation remained stagnant. Rakyat will continue the suffering pass down from your predessor.

I have confidence that you will raise the standard, quality and incisiveness of the dab ate even higher than YB Teng did, a high standard. Offer again the post of Chairman of PAC to the Opposition and they again will not accept, as they did in 2008.

With Khalid as MB, you as Speaker, Selangor is in good hands. I am fortunate residing in Puchong, not Kedah or Perak!

Congratulations Miss Hannah Yeoh,
We are proud of you and pray for your success. As for you, please do not take your position likely. It took so many generation of people for many years of struggle, jail time, beaten by police, separation from their love one and even death to come to this point, please do not make their sacrifice in vain. In the Bible, Esther was made queen, she is afraid to speak for justice, and someone challenge her Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?". God has place you there in high position to speak justice for the people.

Congratulation. Very challenging and tough time ahead. It is God's will that place you in that position, we thank God. It is truly your calling. Pray that God will give you grace, wisdom, understanding, knowledge, strength and discernment in all circumstance and environment that you may be facing and rise above all the testing, trial and tribulations you may face in the future. You will be always in our prayers. God bless.

Hannah,
This is an editorial from sin chew. Do expect propaganda from MCA & Gerakan

http://opinions.sinchew.com.my/node/28756?tid=7

Hannah,
Is this the plot from PKR decimating DAP? DAP may face total annihilation just as Lim Kit Siang face in Penang in 1995 GE?
I am just cruious if Teng Chang Khim were to allocate 45% of all town councillors in all selangor to DAP, how would Khalid Ibrahim. I am sure there are melayu councillors so long that it must be DAP.
Would Khalid/Azmin or Anwar jump hysterically?

By the way, Hwa Beng was impressed that Selangor got a chinese female speaker. So what! MCA got a governorship.

Do you know that Malacca governor was an MCA, Leong Yew Koh, former Ipoh MP?

Of course, Tunku reneged the promises of appointing a chinese Malacca chief minister once the governorship was reverted to a melayu.

See it started just by slicing salami. Beware DAP

http://www.nst.com.my/2013budget/mca-founding-member-and-former-malacca-deputy-chief-minister-dies-1.123442

You see what's so great about a chinese female speaker. MCA once had finance & trade & industry.....aiyaaa...

The bottomline is if you don't arrest the slippery slope. You will be gone

Congrats, YB Hannah. You truly deserve the post and serve it with undaunted dedication!

Not sure the above comments regardIng what a speaker role is compared to being in exco, but I believe you YB has shown us that no matter what you have always done what is right, and that is why you have received a higher mandate this time by the people of subang, me and my family included. My heartfelt congratulations to you. It is most deserving.

Dear Hannah,

Congratulations! As a Subang resident, I am happy that you are looking after us. Nevertheless I hope that you could really push for harder and stricter enforcement on those taxi drivers who failed to provide fair services to Subang people. They currently rule Subang Jaya, not you, not LPKP, and not the customers who wish to have a safe ride home, on time. AND they are getting bolder to reject customers and cheat their money upon reaching the destinations, though the meter is running and showing much lower fare. I am one of those victims who are terrorised and due to my new condo unaccessible to buses and train, I have to resort to cab services and from my condo to train station costs only RM3.70 by meter taxi.

Please put a stop to this menance as I believe you can definitely do it!!

Thank you.

Regards,
A
